What is Twilight? It is the time that signifies the beginning of night. If you're a vampire, twilight is when you can finally leave your coffin. "Not true," says Edward, the dashing costar of Twilight who turns out to be a vampire. "Vampires can come out in the day, they just choose not to be around people when the sun shines on us." I won't give away the surprise as to what exactly happens when vampires are out in the sun, but I will invite you to remember what happens to werewolves when moonlight shines on them.
Despite all of the negative remarks by angry men, women, and adolescents, (yes, even those madly in love with Edward criticize this novel) it is a great book. If you love vampires and can handle a little romance then this book is for you. If you love fantasy and can't handle romance unless it is explained by scientific hunter/prey evolutionary characteristics, this book is for you. If you wonder what's wrong with all of the boys in your life, and just want to fantasize what the perfect mate will be like, this book is for you. If you just want to read a good book, this book is for you.
The universal criticism is that the author, Stephanie Meyer, is not a good writer. While I'll admit that some of the words she uses are a little above the speaking vocabulary of ur avrge t-nage gurl, and that some of her descriptive words are a little over the top, she is a good writer. She uses appropriate descriptions that aren't too lengthy. She creates her own world, in which vampires become her own creation, and the process by which the reader learns what vampires really are makes the whole thing believable. She doesn't use overly wordy or simplistic sentences. And finally, she captures the reader's interest. This fact is undeniable by anyone who reads the book. All that say, "It's written soo poorly," always follow quickly with, "but I couldn't stop reading it."
The other group of haters are the jealous males. Female humans seem to think that Edward is "The most romantic guy in the world." In order to understand why women might feel they want an Edward in their life, let's look at the three things I observed Edward doing that seemed romantic and then a few of his flaws.
First, Edward does things for Bella to make her feel special. Do these things require special knowledge or money? No. He picks up her books when they fall. He opens doors for her. He takes her on a hike. He invites her to watch a baseball game during pouring rain. And, he defends her when her life and virtue are in danger. If a man thinks that these things are too hard to imitate, he needs to stop watching TV and get out and do something with his woman.
Second, Edward says things that make Bella feel special. According to some, they are "The perfect things." Examples of this include: "You fascinate me," "You don't see yourself clearly," (After Bella says she's just an ordinary girl) and "You are exactly my brand of heroin." These phrases aren't that amazing or unique except the last one. If a man has a hard time telling his woman that she's beautiful or that she is special, maybe she should find someone else.
Third, Edward . . . I can't remember. If someone else can think of this one, let me know.
Edward also has several flaws. 1) He gets angry. This can be likened unto any personality quirk. Are you shy, slow, or quickmouthed? 2) He is deadly. Edward could kill Bella at any time, and he even admits to almost being pushed over the edge several times. If Bella can overlook that flaw, your woman can overlook something of yours as long as you keep making her feel special. 3) Edward is a stalker! This is one of the worst things you can do as a man in love, and somehow Bella overlooks it. Maybe this is because of the good things he does.
In conclusion, make the women around you feel special by doing little things and saying little things to them, and you'll find your Bella before you know it.
Oh yeah,
